A sudden drop in the shot blasting machine's current typically indicates an abnormal reduction in the shot blasting machine's equipment load or a failure in its power transmission system. This abnormal
phenomenon may affect the normal operation of the shot blasting machine and reduce its working efficiency, so it is necessary to identify the causes in time and take corresponding troubleshooting measures.
The primary reasons are as follows:
Common Causes
Shot (Steel Shot) Deficiency: During the shot blasting process of the shot blasting machine, the shot undergoes wear or fragmentation, or is not replenished in a timely manner; this results in a reduced shot
volume, a decrease in the shot blasting machine's load, and a drop in current.
Blade Wear: After prolonged use of the shot blasting machine, the blades of the shot blasting wheel may experience uneven wear; this leads to a decline in the shot blasting machine's blasting efficiency,
resulting in a reduced load and a corresponding drop in current readings.
Loose or Slipping Belt: If the shot blasting wheel of the shot blasting machine is driven by a V-belt, belt slackness will compromise power transmission efficiency, manifesting as a decrease in current.
Chute blockage or irregular shot supply: Blockage in the shot delivery piping, screw conveyor, or separator of the shot blasting machine results in unstable or reduced shot flow, which further leads to a drop in the
machine's current.
Insufficient Compressed Air Pressure (Applicable to Pneumatically Controlled Shot Valve Models): The shot valve of the shot blasting machine fails to open properly due to insufficient compressed air pressure,
affecting the shot blasting flow rate and subsequently leading to a drop in current.
Uneven Shot Distribution: Particularly when a large quantity of new steel shot has been added to the shot blasting machine, a shortage of material occurs on one side of the hopper, resulting in a significant
localized drop in the current of the shot blasting wheel.

Suggested Troubleshooting Steps
Check the shot inventory of the shot blasting machine and replenish it promptly to the level required by process specifications; Inspect the blast wheel blades of the shot blasting machine for wear; if necessary, replace
them in pairs to maintain balance;
Check the tension of the shot blasting machine's drive belts; adjust or replace any loose or worn belts;
Clean the shot circulation components of the shot blasting machine—such as the screw conveyor and separator—to ensure unobstructed flow paths;
Verify that the compressed air pressure (if applicable) of the shot blasting machine meets the set value (typically ≥ 0.4 MPa);
Check for uniformity in the steel shot distribution of the shot blasting machine to prevent localized shortages.
